.:About the Author:.
J.K Rowling,
Known world-wide for her captivating children’s series, Harry Potter, Joanne Rowling has won multiple awards, sold more than 400 million book copies, has had her books made into a popular series of films and has defied all the oddsagainst her, along the way.
Joanne Rowling (also known as J.K Rowling) was born on July 31 1965,
to Peter James Rowling and Anne Volant, at the Yate General Hospital in England. Joanne grew up in Chepstow, Gwent but at the age of four her family moved to Winterbourne on the outskirts of Bristol. It was there she claims there was a neighbour boy and girl with the last name ‘Potter.’ Joanne had always been fond of the name, unlike her own which was used in countless jokes such as ‘Rowling Pin’ or ‘Rowling Stone.’ This is said to be where Joanne came up with the main character’s surname for her popular book series ‘Harry Potter’
Yet again, Joanne moved, her parents had always had the dream to live in the country, so when Joanne was nine, her family made the move to Tutshill, a small village just outside Chepstow, Wales. The move coincided with the death of her favourite Grandmother Kathleen, which is the middle name Joanne later took as a writing name (Joanne Kathleen Rowling- J.K. Rowling.)
In 1983 Joanne left home to Study at the University of Exeter where she studied French, which she now claims was a ‘huge’ mistake. After leaving University she worked for Amnesty International- an institution which campaigns against human rights and abuses all over the world.
It was 1990 when Joanne and her ‘then’ boyfriend decided to move to Manchester together. After a weekend of apartment scouting Joanne made the journey, alone, back London. But the train was delayed for four hours. During those four hours the idea for Harry Potter popped into her heard. For the continuing train ride she planned and contemplated the magical world of witches and wizards. That night Joanne began to write, “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone.”
Joanne moved to Manchester brining along with her the manuscript, which she states, “had no resemblance to the present copy.” Then on December 30 1990, something happened that changed Joanne’s and Harry Potter’s life forever, her mother had died. Years before (when Joanne was fifteen) her mother had been diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis-a disease of the central nervous system. Unlike many other M/S patients, where their condition gradually slows of comes to a halt completely, Joanne’s mother was getting slowly but gradually worse. Joanne couldn’t believe the news that her mother had died, at just the age of 45, she was heartbroken.
Nine months later desperate to get away, Joanne left for Portugal, where she landed a job teaching English as a foreign language. When Joanne came back from Portugal she had hoped to have a finished manuscript in her hands, but she came back with something better, her daughter, Jessica. Joanne had married a Portuguese television journalist by the name of Jorge Arantes, but the marriage had ended in a divorce.
Now, seven years after University, Joanne considered herself to be the ‘biggest fail’ she knew. Her marriage had flopped and she was left jobless, with a child. Joanne had intended to start teaching again but wanted to finish her book, because she knew if she didn’t finish it soon it would never be done. So every night when Jessica fell asleep, Joanne would begin to write in a frenzy. Joanne then continued to type the book herself, she claims that, “at times she hated the book but at the same time, she loved it.”
After she finished typing, she sent the book to an agent who quickly sent them back. The second agent Christopher Little from ‘Christopher Little Literary Agency’ wrote back to Joanne asking to see the rest of the book. Christopher became Joanne’s agent. Lots of Publishers turned the book down but in 1997, after a year of endless searching, Christopher called Joanne and told her that ‘Bloomsbury’ had made an offer, which she accepted.
There were only one thousand copies printed the first time and 500 of those distributed to libraries. These copies are said to be worth a total of $25 175- $39 336 (CAD.) But her publishers, fearing the audience if young boys wouldn’t want to read a book written by a woman, demand she use two initials as her writing name. Since Joanne did not have a middle name she took the name of her Grandmother- therefore making her publishing name “J.K. Rowling.” Joanne’s rise to fame became instant. Sequels written by J.K Rowling appeared every year for three years, these include “Harry Potter and The Chamber of Secrets” (1998) “Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban”(1999) and “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire” (2000)
In 2001 Joanne married Neil Michael Murray. In 2003 they had a son, David Gordan Rowling Murray, and in 2005 a daughter Mackenzie Jean Rowling Murray.
J.K Rowling has produced a Global brand worth 15 billion dollars, a series that totals 4, 195 pages and her books have been translated into 65 languages. Her road to fame may have been rocky, but no one can doubt the hard work and perseverance she had in the hard times. She is a great example to others outlining the importance determination. She has shown that when you keep your mind on something, nothing can stop you.

.:Interesting Facts:.
- NATALIE McDonald, who appears on page 159 of Harry Potter And The Goblet Of Fire, was a real person.
She was a nine-year-old girl from Toronto, Canada, who was dying of leukaemia. She wrote to JK Rowling asking what was going to happen in the next Harry Potter book as she would not live long enough to read it.
JK Rowling emailed back, but Natalie had died a day earlier. In tribute, she became a first-year student at Hogwarts named by the Sorting Hat in Gryffindor – the house for the brave at heart – in the fourth book.
- JK Rowling, Harry Potter and actor Daniel Radcliffe all share the same birthday, July 31.
- THE first names of the Hogwarts founders Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, Ravenclaw and Slytherin are Godric, Helga, Rowena, and Salazar.
- A WAR took place in the wizarding world at the same time as the Muggle Second World War. The evil wizard Grindelwald was finally defeated by Dumbledore in 1945, the same year as Hitler’s downfall.
- PEEVES was never a living person. He is not a ghost but an indestructible spirit of chaos, who can unscrew chandeliers, throw walking sticks and generally cause mayhem.
- More than 16,000 children in the U.K. and U.S. auditioned for the role of Harry Potter.
- In real life, the Hogwarts Express is called the “Olton Hall” and runs between Scarborough and York.
.:An Eight Book?:.
Joanne Kathleen Rowling’s series, Harry Potter, provides hours of pleasure reading, magical adventures, and he background story is one that inspires us to follow our dreams. But sadly, the adventures of Harry Potter came to an end when she released the seventh and final book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.” The series truly came to an end when the eight movie was released in 2011 when both Deathly Hallows films (part 1 and 2) were released. But the series left us wondering “What happened to all the characters? What did they do with their lives?” Movies have been made, spin-off books have been written and websites made, but J.K Rowling leaves us wanting more!
At the end of the Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Joanne mentions that Nineteen Years Later, Ron and Hermione get married and Ginny and Harry get married. It then proceeds to indicate that they are at Kings Cross Station sending their kids off to Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. People wonder what an eighth book could possibly be about. Everything has been covered. I believe that some possible ideas for an eight book could include; the characters career paths, Harry and his friends telling their kids about their adventures, the life of their kids at Hogwarts, or possibly the years before the “Nineteen Years Later.” Whatever the basis, I predict that it could possibly one of the best books in the series. Why? Because; nobody can get enough of the Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
It is understandable that Joanne Rowling may be ready to take a break from the series, possibly needing a break, or that financially she is set for life. But her books get motivate children to read. They are captivated by her story lines and the characters adventures, and this is promoting children to become avid readers. As for her financial stability, perhaps she could have a percentage of the books gross income donated towards a charity. It is common knowledge that she supports a variety of charities and has done the donation of a percentage of funds with her spin-off books.
On a positive note it is said that she is not ruling out an eighth book and that she may come back to the World of Harry Potter in a decade or two. It is confirmed that there will be a Harry Potter encyclopedia. But when asked when the release date could possibly be, Joanne stated that it wasn’t going that well and that she hadn’t started writing it yet. We can look forward to the encyclopedia in the next five years though. Its is understandable that after ten years of writing a series that she may n eed a break but her writing benefits kids everywhere. They read more, become entranced with her story and they can’t get enough.
While Joanne states “I have no plans to write another novel. I’m pretty sure I’m done on the novel front … But it was fun while it lasted.” We can only hope that in due time she will change her mind. Because we have not had enough of the Magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter

The quote on the Hogwarts Coat of Arms ”Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus” translates to ‘Never tickle a Sleeping Dragon” But what does that mean exactly? Besides the obvious? Well it means if there is danger ahead of you, or you are threatened by it, don’t go and provoke it! In ither words if a dragon is asleep dont wake him up by tickling him…he won’t appreciate it. But how? you may ask did this quote make it onto the Hogwarts coat of arms? Well this perhaps goes back to the days of the four founders….Helga Hufflepuff, Godric Griffindor, Rowena Ravenclaw and Salazar Slytherin. As all of you Harry Potter fans know the four founders cooperated perfectly until a dispute between Salazar and Godric broke out. Could he have been the dragon, the other three founds had pushed over the edge by (metaphorically) ‘tickling’ him..but then realizing their mistakes and therfore creating the quote on the Hogwarts Coat of Arms “Draco Dormiens Nunquam Titillandus” You can find this information and more from: http://www.mugglenet.com/editorials/editorials/edit-kenda01.shtml

Family Tree from: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Harry_Potter_(character).:And then it Happened:.
In class we have started reading books called “And then it Happened” by M & L Wade. These are some short stories that all have the sentence “and then it happened” throughout them to make the story more enhancing to the reader. In class we had to do a cold write (off the top of your head writing piece) using the “and then it happened” sentence. For mine I used J.K. Rowling’s character’s from her popular book series Harry Potter. I had the setting be on Halloween since the holiday is closely nearing. Enjoy!
It was a cold Halloween night and Harry, Ron and Hermione were walking down a short crowded street in London, England, tricker treating from house to house. All was normal- a big change from their everyday lives. They were blending in with the other children, dressed in costumes (Barbie, Ken and Darth Vader) enjoying the candy and the best part about it was that Draco Malfoy was no where in sight.
But there was no way they could hide from their big secret, it would always be with them…there secret was that they actually were wizards, they did have wands, they did fly on broomsticks and they could do magic.
But so far all was fine, no one in the street knew their secret…
AND THEN IT HAPPENED…
Ron dropped his bag of candy.
“Blimey,” Ron exclaimed.
“Dont worry Ron, I’ll take care of this,” Harry replied
Harry took out his wand and said in a loud clear voice “Wingardrium Leviosa.”
Just as harry bellowed out the spell Hermione yelled “NOOOOOOOOOOO HARRY!”
Just as Harry realized his mistake a group of muggles (non- magical children) turned around at the sound of Harry’s voice, just in time to see candy floating in the air at Harry’s command. They screamed out in terror.
The group of children had just seen Harry do magic. That is a big NO, NO in the wizarding world.
“Oh no,” Harry and Ron whispered at the same time.
The muggle children pointed and screamed and then they started running full force wanting to escape as fast as they could from Harry, Ron and Hermione.
“Oh, no you don’t…CONFUNDUS!” Hermione yelled.
The children stopped, and looked uttely dumbfounded. (Hermione had just tempered with their memories.) They no longer remembered what happened. They just stood there looking confused at each other.
Harry, Ron and Hermione turned away walking quickly out of the street. They pretended as if nothing had happened…all was fine, or so they thought…
When the three friends got back to their school “Hogwarts” punishment was awaiting them in the Great Hall, in the form of Snape, Dumbledore and Professer McGonagal. They were looking grim standing sid by side.
Three scoldings, three, detentions and 100 points off Gryffindor later Harry, Ron and Hermione had learned their lesson.
RON: Be more careful woth candy. HARRY: Think before you act. HERMIONE: Take more care if watching over Harry and Ron. Hermione also received a compliment for her spell work. The three friends left the Great Hall deciding to be more careful, but who knows how long that decision will last?

.:Quotes:.
“Proud?” said Harry. “Are you crazy? All those times I could’ve died, and I didn’t manage it? They’ll be furious….” “Hey, look – Harry’s got a Weasley sweater, too!” Fred and George were wearing blue sweaters, one with a large yellow ‘F’ on it, the other a ‘G.’ “Harry’s is better than ours, though,” said Fred, holding up Harry’s sweater. “She obviously makes more of an effort if you’re not family.” “Why aren’t you wearing yours, Ron?” George demanded. “Come on, get it on, they’re lovely and warm.” “I hate maroon,” Ron moaned half-heartedly as he pulled it over his head. “You haven’t got a letter on yours,” George observed. “I suppose she thinks you don’t forget your name. But we’re not stupid – we know we’re called Gred and Forge.” “I believe your friends Misters Fred and George Weasley were responsible for trying to send you a toilet seat. No doubt they thought it would amuse you.” ”To the well organized mind, death is but the next great adventure.” “Longbottom, if brains were gold, you’d be poorer than Weasley, and that’s saying something.” “Ah, of course. There is no need to tell me any more, Ms. Granger. Which one of you will be dying this year?” “I’ve been able to see them ever since my first year here. They’ve always pulled the carriages. Don’t worry. You’re just as sane as I am.” Reading between the lines, I’d say she thinks you’re a bit conceited, mate.” “What’s up with you, Hermione?” She was gazing out the window, but not as though she really saw it. Her eyes were unfocused and there was a frown on her face. “Just thinking…” she said, still frowning. “About Siri — Snuffles?” said Harry. “No…not exactly…” said Hermione slowly. “More…wondering…I suppose we’re doing the right thing…I think….aren’t we?” Harry and Ron looked at each other. “Well, that clears that up,” said Ron. “It would have been really annoying if you hadn’t explained yourself properly.”.:Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2:.
